A little bit about PGRC

VISION

Our vision is to create a safe environment where young girls can develop a love of the sport of rowing and continue to participate in the sport throughout their lifetime, by providing professional coaching, well maintained equipment and training facilities to all girls from all backgrounds aged between 12-18 within Cape Town’s borders.

MISSION

PGRC is committed to offering members the opportunity to train and compete at the highest levels appropriate to their ability and stage of development by providing excellent coaching and facilities in a safe, supportive, friendly and inclusive environment. Our mission is to expose as many girls as possible to the fitness regimen, training, camaraderie, sportsmanship and dedication that the sport of rowing instils, as well as the opportunity to travel the country, taking part in regattas and competing for provincial and national colours in this ever-growing Olympic sport.

HISTORY

PGRC was established in 1997 by Alfred’s Rowing Club, as part of its development program to grow the sport of rowing amongst young women in Cape Town. Since then the club has gained independence and now features as one of the top junior rowing clubs in the country. PGRC is proud of its history and considers itself privileged to be the only ‘Girls’ rowing club able to offer the young women of Cape Town the opportunity to participate in the amazing sport of rowing and to pass on all the valuable life lessons associated with a sport of this nature. The girls come from a variety of backgrounds and are widely spread amongst the Girls High Schools in Cape Town, including Reddam (Co-ed), Herschel, Springfield, St Cyprians, Rustenburg and Peak Academy in Fish Hoek, but welcome all girls from any schools within Cape Town.
