Peninsula Girls Rowing Club is Cape Town’s oldest rowing club for girls. We are a dedicated club whose main objective is to grow junior women’s rowing within the Western Cape. Rowing is a sport unlike any other – it teaches athletes to constantly push themselves and each other to achieve their goals, while forming life long friendship’s and memories in the process.

Entitled to Nothing – Grateful for Everything

WHERE TO FIND US

Peninsula Girls Rowing Club is situated on the banks of the Zeekovlei Dam within the Nature Reserve at the Keith Hart Memorial Shed.

The Our shed is shared between 3 Rowing Clubs – Namely Peninsula Girls Rowing Club, Western Cape Development and Rondebosch Rowing Club.

From the M5 you would take a left into Victoria Road and continue straight until you reach Fishermans Walk.

Take a left up Fishermans Walk and once you reach the T-junction at the top, turn right into Buck Road. Keep going straight till you’ve cross over a small bridge, then at the 4-way stop, turn right again into Flowerpecker Street. In front of you is the boom to enter the nature reserve. Keep following this road till you reach our parking lot on the right hand side next to our shed.

PGRC Season ending Domination

Peninsula Girls Rowing Club sent its Open girls to the SA Schools Junior Championships held outside Pretoria on the Roodeplaat dam. The Open girls clearly wanted to show that PGRC is a name to remember. But actions speak louder than words – and the message couldn’t be clearer. In the Club division, PGRC ended second on the overall club points table (a remarkable achievement with only one age group). The following are the results:

  • U19 2X – 1st/2nd/3rd
  • U19 2- – 1st/2nd/3rd
  • U19 4X+ – 1st/2nd

The girls also competed against the schools in two boat classes – the U19 2- where our two crews came 1st and 2nd in the B-Final, making them the 9th and 10th fastest crews in the country. However it was the Girls U19 8+ event where the girls showed their dominance – Walking away as SA Junior Champions 2019.

PGRC re-writes the history books!

We are extremely PROUD to announce that our U19 First team has been selected to represent Western Cape together with girls from Somerset at the SA Senior Club Championships outside Pretoria towards the end of April 2019. Those names in no specific order:

  • Jennifer Van Niekerk
  • Cait McCann
  • Amber Wilson
  • Morgan Prins
  • Jemima Short

We wish you girls all the best for your training ahead and will be shouting for the blue and white.

PGRC Shines at Western Cape Championships

Peninsula Girls rowing club participated at the recent Western Cape Championships achieving some incredible results. Both U14 and U15 age groups won the majority of their events while Kirsten won her U16 A sculls race in a tightly fought contest.

Tight races and heart stopping finishes seemed to be the order of the day with PGRC Opens winning both the U19 4X+ and 8+ with mere centimeters. Well done to all the girls.

Well Done – Katherine Williams

PGRC would like to extend its Congratulations to Kath for her selection to represent South Africa at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires from the 6th-18th October 2018. Well done to the Coaching team at Somerset College for for all their hard-work in helping Kath achieve this amazing goal. Girls rowing in the Western Cape is on the rise!

PGRC Duo earn Western Cape Colours

PGRC is proud to announce that two of our girls (Georgia Warrin and Frances Hill) have both been selected to represent the Western Cape at this years SA Senior National Championships. Their hard-work and dedication finally paid off and we wish them all the best.
